Hey guys,
So as I mentioned in my post the other night, I am very keen to get back into the Linux game. This is important to me for a number of reasons:
So thats the long and short of it, and as we speak, I am currently running 3 VM’s in complete unison to get a better taste of the industry at the moment. This currently consists of Ubuntu, Mint and ARCH. Ubuntu and Mint are there to help me better understand the new gnome shell derivatives for Unity, Mate and Cinnamon, given the amount of forking recently. Arch is mainly to get myself prepared for the setup I am making for my Pi and also to dive straight into the grittier side of Linux. I am also quite keen to install KDE as a window manager on this set up, to also gain more insight into another GUI.
Anyways, that’s me for tonight.
Hey Guys,
Definitely considering getting a netbook in the coming weeks to help boost my mobile efficiency for both work related issues and university studies. That said, I am quite eager to make the switch on my one of my machines to Linux. (My other main machine is a Mac with Windows 7 running on a VM for certain Uni software.) And what better way to start off my transition than with the new release of Ubuntu. I have heard nothing but good things about it, and feel now would be a good time to trial it, considering I will essentially be using this netbook as a cloud device with most of my services running through Google in some shape or form. So, in short, I will be making a review of my findings in about a month’s or so time to let you know how I am getting on. You can find a download link to try this for yourself here.
If you are curious about the netbook I am getting you can find it here. It’s not intended for anything big, but once my new modules start for university, I will be doing a lot of Java Programming. As I am intending to do this on the Eclipse IDE, Linux will be a perfect platform for me to do this on the move, especially considering there is a debian package for this that can be updated through the Ubuntu PPA’s.
Anyway, I’m offskis.
I sometimes think to myself that the combination of intelligence and a passionate heart often comes with it’s own caveats. I realise I’m immediately making the assumption I’m both, but for arguments sake I’m a narcissist so lets assume I am. (More talking about my own self-absorbed issues later on)
I mean, I can never truly sleep right without initially exhausting myself before my head hits the pillow. I don’t know about you, but I have asked a many different people but this kind of mild insomnia appears to affect most. I have asked people and got answers like, “That certain someone was on my mind”, “I kept talking to myself” or “The internet has far too many cats.” But why is it that in this modern society of multiple distractions and feeds for activity, that we find ourselves so wired? Surely, the combination of moving place to place, whilst updating your social network, whilst reading a book, whilst listening to music, whilst planning to do with the rest of your day, is reason enough to induce a pleasant and easy sleep? Or is it that very reason which defines why we are sleepless to begin with? Surely having so much mental and physical activity throughout the day, keeps that muscle in our head working overtime. Perhaps pushing us through boundaries we never knew existed and pushing us into the realms of completely sleepless beings. I seem to remember a pyschological study in my A level course, talking of the natural body clock being 25 hours without the aid of sunlight and other indicators of when we should recharge. That being the case, surely we should find sleep something of a passing habit, something which should come with ease given we have that one less hour of sleep we truly need. But, I think this is something which struggles to be gauged or measured, and a thing I shouldn’t mull over. Assuming I want to sleep.
As for me, I often don’t sleep on a regular night, whether on shift or not. I often find I sleep a lot better during my night shifts, perhaps because there is less to think about when everyone else is tucked up in their beds and nothing relevant is occuring. That said, my dreams often give me little reprieve also. All concerns mulling in my mind during the day, or passing months, usually appear personified in some shape or form. Usually giving me a whole barrage of things to mull over the next morning, adding to the day that has barely started. It’s almost like clockwork. That said, my mind does find peace in travel, unfamiliar places and friends, so I often find myself trying to fill my days with as many of these as possible, before I deprive myself of any more life than can be given in one day.
That said, I’m purely writing this blog for the very same reason. So, off to bed and the land of metaphorical dreams that my unconcious has lovingly conjoured up for me. Joy.
Any thoughts on insomnia and an overactive mind? Feel free to comment.
Allons -sy!
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the blog I finally got round to making. The aim here is to put all my blatherings that are usually at the expense of my peer’s ears, onto it’s own page. Much to the joy of many, I digress.
For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Jamie and I am a full time geek/cynic/sexpest/biker. For those already judging me on those four things, good luck with enjoying this blog. I currently work as a Network Operations Controller for KCOM and am a distance learner for the Open University on a Bsc for Computing. I will not go into detail about the many different interests and activities I get up to, because I’d like to think the content I am filling this blog with, will paint a much more vivid picture. For better or worse, I am unsure. You will have to be the judge of that.
However, this blog is still in it’s infancy and some may wish to get an idea of my character a bit sooner. Before they subject themselves to bias and an infallible tendency to offend as many different minds as possible. That being the case, I would recommend following the links I have provided above, to both my professional profiles and the more informal ones to. I have not provided a link to my Facebook account for obvious reasons.
This blog should contain such content that interests me, and those with a similar mind. For example, technology, philosophical thinking, general politics and angry man ranting. If none of these things interest you, do not expect to get any more than what you see here.
Anyways, in true blogging fashion I will sign off as it is late, and I really fancy watching season six of House M.D. House is cool.
Adios
